Mark Parete, DDS, MS, FRCDC
Dr. Mark Parete was born in Windsor, raised in Amherstburg and attended Villanova High School. The positive experience he encountered at Drs. Voth & Lalani’s office during his own orthodontic treatment set him on track to pursue a career as an Orthodontist. Enjoying science, Dr. Parete received his Bachelors of Biological Sciences (BS) from Wayne State University, and completed his Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree (DDS) at the University of Detroit Mercy. Following graduation, he was selected to continue his orthodontic specialty training and Master’s Degree in Science (MS).
Dr. Parete joined the practice in 2014 alongside his mentors, Drs. Voth and Lalani and combined his training in the latest advances in orthodontic research and treatment options with their 40+ years’ experience. Dr. Parete is licensed as a certified orthodontic specialist in both Ontario and Michigan, and is also a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. In 2016 he voluntarily became board certified with the American Board of Orthodontics, requiring hundreds of additional hours of preparation and examination to demonstrate his judgment, skills and knowledge required for providing the highest level of patient care. This is an honour held by only 1 in 3 orthodontists!
Having undergone a first phase of orthodontics as a child for an impacted (stuck) tooth, comprehensive braces as an adolescent to straighten his teeth, and orthognathic jaw surgery as an adult to correct his bite, Dr. Parete has had a first-hand experience of what it feels like to be the patient. His skills range from early interceptive treatment for young children to more difficult and involved comprehensive treatments such as TMJ/TMD and sleep apnea – which he has also personally experienced. He will make sure all your questions are answered, guide you on what you can expect along the way, and will walk you through every step of your journey towards a better, healthier smile you will be proud of.
In addition to working at VLP Orthodontists, he also practices at an office in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and is delighted to regularly teach as a Clinical Associate Professor training future orthodontists at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry.
When he’s not at the office, Dr. Parete enjoys spending time in his current hometown of Detroit, being physically active and taking advantage of the great outdoors. An avid naturalist, he loves spending time on the lakes kayaking and camping. Dr. Parete also enjoys traveling to new places – his favorite to date is Yellowstone National Park.
